Merzoauga 4x4 Excursions

A 4×4 jeep desert tour in Merzouga is something we highly recommend because it’s a great way to see all the different and interesting places around the Erg Chebbi desert, like Berber villages, Merzouag or Hassi El Beid’s oasis, the seasonal lake, Khamlia village, fossil mines of M’fis, and the nomad families, in addition to taking in the breathtaking panoramic views of this magnificent Sahara desert.

On our jeep desert excursion can start from Merzouga or from your desert camp. We’ll visit the village of Khamlia, where the majority of the locals are from Mali, Sudan and different African countries. We will have a short walk around the villages and there’s an opportunity to listen to the Gnawa music.

After the visit of Khamlia, we will be heading towards the east side of Erg Chebbi dunes. Our off-road journey will continue to the black desert next to M’fis, where we will visit its fossil mines, where we will go on short hiking to find some natural fossils.

After visit M’fis, we will drive in the vast black desert, where we may see a mirage. After a few kilometers, we will reach the Berber nomad families, who live in traditional tents, and mud houses. It will be an opportunity to see how desert nomads survive the cold, the sandstorms and the heat during the summer. We will have a cup of mint tea with the Berber family, and also it is possible to have lunch with them, enjoying one of their traditional meals, such as the Berber Pizza. 

We will continue our day stopping at panoramic views, enjoy the Sahara desert landscapes, and we will drop you off at your accommodation or in Merzouga at the end of the excursion.
